Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries Osea Naiqamu has urged villagers of Vitogo to be mindful of the importance of planting trees for their future generation.

He visited the village on the outskirts of Lautoka City earlier today to plant trees as part of the 30 million trees in 15 years initiative.

Mr Naiqamu said landowners needed to make use of the abundance of land around them to plant more trees.

“The effects of climate change is real, therefore, planting a lot of trees can help mitigate this change that is affecting most of us,” Mr Naiqamu said.

A total of 186 trees were planted by village elders and ministry staff at the village today.
