Nawaka 7s: Army guns for win

THE Army rugby 7s team will expose its set of new players at the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament in Nadi this weekend.

Developing for perfection on the field begins from grassroots level, however this year the Army team has a new set of unknown players.

Team manager and former national 7s squad member, Napolioni Naulia has a mission to accomplish with his former teammate and Army coach Dale Tonawai.

They want to groom young talents in the team to lift the standard of the Army team to another level.

“We have two teams that will feature in the Nawaka Rugby 7s tournament,” Naulia said.

“All of our renowned key players have joined the Latui team.

“We have a new set of players with us who will carry fourth the team throughout the year and this will be our first major tournament.”

It has been more than five years since the Army 7s team made an impact in Fiji rugby.

Naulia was the team captain that won the Marist 7s in 2011 and had teammates such as Isake Katonibau, Leone Nakarawa and Dale Tonawai.

“Our goal is to develop these players and have a development side that will assist in the continuation of our sevens code in the country.

“We will work together with the head coach to boost the performance of these players as we focus on to the Nawaka and Marist 7s tournament,” he said.

Army Green is pooled with Tabadamu, Tovolea and Bau while Army Red is pooled with Veilomani Combo, Tabalei and Nasikawa.
