OPPOSITION MPs walked out of Parliament after Speaker of Parliament struck out a petition from Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka this morning.
Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka said the petitions were brought into Parliament as a matter of concern from members of the public.
“The situation in Sigatoka is quite grave and they believe they’ve elected their members into Parliament to speak on their behalf and they are a free people and the petition their parliament to look into a matter of great importance to them,” Mr Gavoka said.
“We are totally disappointed with this ruling and we believe this is totally un exceptable,” he said.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said he had experienced MPs walking out of Parliament in previous Governments.
“For me it’s not a new thing,” Ratu Epeli said.
He has give the Opposition an hour to return into Parliament.
The Opposition is expected to hold a press conference later today.
