UniFiji hosts successful student orientation day

OVER 350 students and parents at Saweni Campus and approximately 150 students at Samabula Campus attended the University of Fiji student orientation day this week.

According to a statement the university hosted  successful student orientation day at the Saweni Campus on Monday, February 3 and at Samabula Campus on February 4, 2020.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sushila Chang who welcomed the students to the said university life may seem difficult in the beginning but gets better with time as it did for her when she was a freshman.

“The first week may seem difficult, it gets better during the second week and only gets better and better.  The first semester isalways the hardest, the second semester becomes better. The first year is the most difficult, the second year can be exhilarating and so empowering and thereon you are the maker of your dreams,” Prof Chang said.

She said the University of Fiji had students at the centre of its heart.

“Everything we do is about the students. Therefore, this is not a University per say, it is your family and your home away from home,” she said.

Prof Chang advised students to make the most of their time at the University; to make friends and be sociable; to study hard and do things that are meaningful to them; to embrace diversity and the many differences in people and uphold values.

Meanwhile Pro-Chancellor, Ambassador Kamlesh Arya spoke about the University’s Founders Policies.

He said the university was founded on universal values including respect and discipline.

“It’s a people’s University- it was founded by the people for the people,” he said.
