Weather watch: Heavy rain alert cancelled for eastern half of Viti Levu

A heavy rain alert previously in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu and Kadavu is now cancelled.

However, the national weather forecasting centre in Nadi says the alert remained in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

The weatherman says an active of trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies just to the north of Fiji, and it is expected to gradually drift southwards towards Fiji and affect the northern and eastern parts of the group from later tomorrow.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group, expect cloudy periods with some showers over the eastern parts and interior of the larger islands.

Elsewhere, fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Isolated heavy falls are also expected.
