FIJI’S top judoka Tevita Takayawa aims to qualify for Olympics by April this year.
Takayawa who recently returned to the mat after an injury to his right leg late last year is focused on achieving Olympic qualification by the 2020 Asian-Pacific Judo championships which begin in April.
“Well the goal is by the Asian-Pacific Championships I would’ve qualified,” Takayawa said.
“Definitely intense but I’m working hard not to get overwhelmed and be well prepared for what’s to come.”
A busy first quarter for Takayawa where he will attend training camps in England, France and Germany.
“I have training camps to attend in England, France and Germany in February.
“I’ll be at the Paris Grand Slam in France and Düsseldorf Grand Slam in Germany but I’m only attending the training camps with the advise of my coaches.
“Training camps will be tough because like all judo training camps, the top athletes of my sport will be in attendance so it’s a good place to test and know where I am with my recovery.”
Takayawa will engage in his first official competition at the Tbilisi. Georgia Grand Prix in March followed by the Antalya Grand Prix in Turkey.
