IN the past, players who were 30 years old and over were normally given the nod to
represent Fiji in 15s but that has changed as younger players were now showing
maturity to be selected for the Fiji team.
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor says the development
program had changed as they’re roping in young players and developing them
through their system as they have the under-18, U20, Fijian Drua, Warriors and
Fijian Latui.
This is the platform where young local players are being groomed so they qualify
to be Flying Fijians.
The CEO says in the past FRU used to select players over the age of 30 years
to represent Fiji because of the culture and system that was used.
He said in the past, the older a player got, the more matured and experienced
he was on the field
