POLICE have identified that a lit mosquito coil had caused the fire that destroyed the GCC complex of the iTaukei Trust Fund Board in Suva on December 11, last year.
Police spokeswoman Savaira Tabua said police had completed their analysis and could confirm that the cause of the fire was a mosquito coil.
“Our analysis concurred with the findings of the National Fire Authority,” she said.
When contacted earlier, chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said NFA had completed its investigations and had handed over the report and only police would release it.
Questions sent via electronic mail to the iTaukei Trust Fund Board on December, 16, 17, 18 and yesterday on the future of the burnt complex remained unanswered.
Meanwhile, in a statement released earlier, iTaukei Affairs Ministry permanent secretary Meleti Bainimarama assured Fijians that all documents and official records were safe.
