SUVA has been earmarked to host a boxing promotion soon.
This has been confirmed by the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
“One promoter has shown interest and he has managed to get money for a venue in Suva,” Commission chairman Subhash Appana said.
“The event will be held at the FMF Gymnasium, so we are actually in the process of planning a boxing program for March next year.
“I will not name the promoter as yet, but it is coming. I have got his entire proposed program.”
Suva had not hosted a professional boxing program for some years.
Appana said Suva had not had hosted programs because of financial reasons.
“The venues in Suva are quite hard to look for.”
He said about six boxing promotions were expected to be held next year with one scheduled for Ba early next year and later in Suva.
The establishment of the Boxing Commission of Fiji is to regulate and control professional and amateur boxing in the country and its related matters.
“Basically my role is to facilitate the smooth running for the sport of boxing adhering to rules in line with international conventions.”
Appana is among executive who had been roped in to try and revive boxing in the country.
