LTA: Get number plates compliant

Listen to this article:

ALL vehicles operating on Fiji Roads must have a clearly displayed authorised number plate.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a stern warning and that any breach could result in further legal actions.

LTA chief executive officer Samuel Simpson said stickers in windows or dirty number plates were not acceptable.

He said it would “result in the driver of the vehicle being booked and very probably having their vehicle impounded”.

“So get your number plate compliant today before it’s too late. The LTA has unmarked vehicles on the road taking pictures of offending vehicles,” Mr Simpson said in a statement.

“There are LTA and Fiji Police Force joint operations taking place during this festive season. Vehicle checkpoints are there for your safety and for the purposes of detecting vehicles operating on our roads illegally.

“Officers will be looking out for illegal tinting, number plate offences, worn or damaged tyres, passengers not wearing seat belts, illegal vehicle modifications, driving while under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs among other offences.”
