FIJI Airways Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber says he has continued to educate his players to beware of certain perceptions from other teams and officials on their actions when they take the field in any game.

Fiji, like most Pacific Island teams, are deemed to be more physical than any other teams when it comes to rugby and walk a thin line when it comes to discipline and consequence.

“You continue to go and educate the players on why they get yellow cards,” Baber said.

“And continue to educate them on certain perceptions out there on what happens when Fiji takes the field and you know we got to show control,” Baber said the post analysis of the Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship showed they were moving in the right direction when it came to penalties and yellow cards.

“The most penalties we gave away was in the contact area for not supporting our own body weigt and not releasing a player which are not yellow card offences and only had two high tackles.

“We give data like that back to the players to make them aware of how it affects our game and obviously yellow cards affect games which cause and give you pressure you don’t need.

“We bring that attention to the players every time and how important it is to keep that discipline”
