COMING into the 2019 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, the Australian women’s team has had a tremendous start beating Canada 19-5.
Australia’s Cassandra Staples summed up the Australians’ performance as “a great start and hopefully a sign of this to come.”
Though the Canadians were able to keep a tight defence throughout the second half, Australia’s explosivity and power shone through during the first couple of minutes.
“We have come here prepared, excited to be here in Fiji.
“We showed what we can do in that game and I’m sure we will be able to reciprocate it in the coming days,” Staples concluded.
Today the Australians play the All Blacks Sevens team from New Zealand at 12.06pm and the Japanese women’s development team at 4.08pm.
