MEET Simran Shristy Kumar, a student lawyer who also adopted a love for painting and crafting from a very young age. At 20, the Lautoka lass’s dream is slowly turning into reality as she proudly owns a gift page @_gift_ideas_fj on instagram and ‘Gift Ideas’ on facebook where she sells all the crafting and paintings she does when she takes time out from studies.

Describe yourself – I consider myself as a very soft hearted and creative person. I am very much fond of doing art and craft and designing henna. I in fact run my own page named Gift Ideas where I use my talent to make personalised gifts and sell it. I also do henna designing for any occasion and also have a page for that named henna magic. Apart from that I am very compassionate about children and love to be surrounded by them.

What inspires me – I find inspiration everyday in everything, from the words of my favourite writer to the blooms and leaves on my morning walk. But what inspires me the most is risk. Starting something I have no idea how to finish and witnessing people go for something new. Anything that has potential for failure gets my heart and creativity pumping.
Knowing my passion in life gives me something to build the rest of my life around. I am really passionate about art and craft. I’ve been designing, crafting and making things since I was a little girl. In my head the vision I had was a masterpiece, in reality though it took years to develop the skills to make it what was in my head look as good as I imagined it to be.
I always knew crafting would be a big part of my life. I spent my childhood drawing, painting and creating something out of nothing. My inspiration always came out of the things I found around me. Nature has always been a huge inspiration.
I love the process of making dreams and ideas into reality. And I can finally say my dreams had come true as I proudly own a gift page name @_gift_ideas_fj on instagram and Gift Ideas on facebook where I design and make personalised gifts like Explosion Boxes, Chocolate Bouquets, Photo hanging Charms and sell. As long as I’m breathing I will be engaged in creative process because it’s my passion.

Most memorable part of your career – I am currently a student at University of Fiji, but I can’t wait to enter the workforce as one of the best lawyers and make bunch of memories.

I am obsessed – with music. Finding new artists and songs has long been one of my most favourite hobbies and pass times. One of the songs that has always been close to my heart is Scars to your beautiful – Alessia Cara as it encouraged a woman to love herself regardless of her scars. My favourite line from that song is ‘You should know you’re beautiful , just the way you are’.

I am proud – of my parents. They are the light of my life and the spirit of my soul. I am gifted to have such great parents because they were with me in my hard times and never let me down. They believe in me without any doubt in their mind. They never took a back step from giving me a quality education and helping me become the kind and loving person that I am today.
This compassion I have for needy people has all come from the good teachings of morals and values from my parents and I assure to carry this along with me throughout my life. I know the God has selected the best ones for me and I still really don’t know whether I can ever repay this debt or not.

Wish I could change – everyone’s mindset regarding the beauty of a woman because I believe it’s not what we see from outside, but the inner beauty which defines the beauty of a woman. A good heart and soul is what makes a woman beautiful.

Really need to – workout and plan a healthy diet for myself.

Can’t handle it – lies. It irritates me a lot. I prefer being hurt by truth then to be lied to.

I look back – and say thank you to myself for every step of success I have taken to be where I am right now.

I relax by – listening to music and doing art and craft.

I am excited about – my life. I cant wait to see the successful woman I become in future with the blessings of my parents in it.

Biggest weakness – I tend to trust people very easily.

List of favourite things – henna designing, doing art and craft, socialising and listening to music.

Attitude to exercise – should maintain a positive attitude towards fitness and understand that regular exercise is the key to longer, happier, and healthier life.

Relationship with my body – my body is my most loyal, lifelong companion. I have always felt good about my body that involved my healthy eating style and consistent exercise patterns. I believe I am what I eat.

Mentor since childhood – my parents. They have always been my role model. They have given me quality time and offered support and encouragement giving my life a meaning. It is because of them that I have such a high self esteem.

I would love to meet – Michelle Obama for such a role model she is for all the women.

Advice to young children– Eat healthy to be healthy and never to be afraid of following your dreams and always be nice to everyone as you never know who is going through what.
