FORMER Fiji weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana has risen to the top of the world after breaking 46 weightlifting records and three world records all in one day during the Australian National and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Sydney over the weekend.
The former Fiji Commonwealth Games gold medallist now plying her trade in Australia was reported by the Sydney Telegraph to have broken seven snatch records with her 114kg lift in the 87kg category.
She followed with an insurmountable 155kg clean and jerk to claim two junior world records and equal the junior world record for a combined total of 269kg.
“Wow,” she told the Sydney Telegraph whom informed her about her milestone achievements.
“I guess breaking records is an extra bonus. Now I can tell myself that all the hard work in training is paying off.”
Cikamatana is now the No.1 junior weightlifter in her category in the world by 50 kilograms and has broken nine records in only two events.
Next up for Cikamatana is her pursuit to become an Australian citizen and represent Australia at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The records will officially count when she becomes a citizen and the Oceania, Commonwealth and Junior World records will be recorded once her paperwork is approved.
“We’ll see how it goes,I’m only claiming the Australian records because I’m a resident but hopefully it all works out.”
Cikamatana’s mother Makitalena Cikamatana was also present to witness her daughter create history once again.
“I feel very blessed and special to have my mother here to watch me compete. It is a big thing for me because she lives so far away.
“My inspiration was my parents because they have worked so hard to give me a bright future.”
