MINISTER for Education, Heritage and Arts Rosy Akbar officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for entirely revamped facilities for Queen Victoria School today.
The first phase of the school’s facilities rebuilding consists of five school blocks and two dormitories, which is expected to be completed in 24 weeks at a cost of $1.2m.
Mrs Akbar said after this groundbreaking ceremony, contractor Concrete Solutions would build a state of the art school for QVS.
“You will enjoy that and of course the students coming after you will enjoy it as well,” she said.
She said classrooms for other schools in Fiji would be built and designed to withstand the ferocity of any Category four or five cyclone.
“This new state of construction will deliver a home for you students that is worthy of the talent and potential each of you have,” he said.
QVS principal Qalo Lesi said the school was still in its recovery phase after the destruction of Severe TC Winston.
“We are so blessed again today with this new development that would surely enhance the education achievement of the students at QVS,” he said.
