DOCTOR of Philosophy (Ph.D) supervisors from senior academic faculty from across the Fiji National University are attending a skills training workshop to strengthen their mentoring and supervision skills to guide students seeking higher academic degrees.
The three-day workshop aims to produce academic leaders who will advise and lead new researchers in achieving a higher qualification.
In a statement, FNU vice-chancellor Professor Nigel Healey said the university was investing in the expansion of part-time and in-service doctoral qualifications to enable staff to work towards a Ph.D.
“Being a PhD supervisor can be a fulfilling and an enriching role. Not only are you contributing to the professional development and personal growth of colleagues in a life-changing way, but the experience can also be revitalising and help you to reignite your own research agenda,” Prof Healey said.
The participants discussed major issues such as non-completion, selection of projects and techniques to mentor students to produce high-quality publications.
