GOUNDAR Shipping Ltd will resume operations today after being given the green light by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to do so.
This, after the shipping company’s operations was detained for the past nine days for failure to comply with the authority’s Safe Ships Management System (SSMS) documents.
In an elated mood, the company’s owner and managing director George Goundar said personnel from their office and the authority managed to review their documents yesterday and sort issues out.
Mr Goundar said he was also given a big list of requirements from the authority that the company still needed to comply with.
“It is still bugging me that after our ships had been passed for safety standards, we are still being told to adhere to these SSMS even when we have our own system that has been legally vetted,” he said.
“Our vessels will begin loading at Walu Bay from midday tomorrow before they depart at 3pm. At this juncture we are happy to resume our operations and to serve our customers who matter the most to us.
“I know that those in the maritime areas have been affected after our ships were detained but we are happy to offer them our services once again.”
Meanwhile, the MSAF had delivered a statement last week saying that the ship had to be detained after it failed to comply with the SSMS.
The SSMS is a guideline used by shipping companies to draft their own standard operating procedures.
