PRIME Minister and Minister for Sugar Voreqe Bainimarama opened crushing at the Lautoka mill by assuring cane growers that his Government would continue to support the industry despite the national budget going through a period of fiscal consolidation.
He said regulating cane lorry cartage rates and upgrading the rail network was being done to ensure farmers had more money in their pockets.
The industry is hoping to crush 1.9million tonnes of cane this season
