THE Ministry of Disaster Management and Meteorological Services will be able to provide timely and reliable meteorology and hydrology information through the upgrade of outer island stations on Viwa and Udu Point.
This is after $200,000 was allocated to the ministry for the project in the 2019/2020 National Budget which was announced last Friday by Minister of Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
According to the 2019-2020 Budget Kit, the funding would secure equipment, instruments and buildings at meteorological outstations to ensure that reliable information could be received in terms of disaster for Fiji.
Funding would also go towards preserving a safe working environment for station officers and their families on site.
Also, $265,080 has been allocated for the installation of Water Level and Rainfall Telemetry Equipment for pro-active flood monitoring near major rivers in the country.
