FIJI Beach Volleyball has been dropped from the Team Fiji Pacific Games contingent after not delivering documentation on time to the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC).

Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower said Fiji Beach Volleyball failed to provide levies or any form of communication with FASANOC administration regarding their logistics.

“The main reason why we have had no option, but to drop Fiji Beach volleyball is because nothing had been paid in regards to levy’s that needed to be paid over the line,” said Bower.

“Due to difficulties that were faced in gaining data and basically cooperation from beach volleyball in regards to the requirement of the team, there was little to no communication made by beach volleyball officials so they have unfortunately been dropped from the team,” he said.

Each sporting federation was responsible for paying their own team levies to FASANOC, which was supposed to be paid on a three-term basis.

“We have on our part made an effort to communicate with them and at the end of the day, FASANOC is also concerned about the athletes.

In taking the athletes into consideration, we have tried our best to make sure that they made an effort to get the athletes across the line,” said Bower.

He said the decision had been made by the administrators and the selection justification committee.

“In all fairness, a decision had to be made and the decision was to drop the team,” said Bower.

Fiji Beach Volleyball Association said it would comment later.
