A 38-YEAR-OLD Lautoka man appeared at the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday charged for assaulting and threatening police officers earlier this month.
Livai Matea was charged with three counts of criminal intimidation and one count of serious assault.
According to police prosecutors, the accused was alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol when he was stopped by police officers.
While being questioned by the officers, Mr Matea was alleged to have threatened them with a cane knife. He is also alleged to have seriously injured one of the officers.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone today.
Mr Matea applied for bail, but was refused.
The Court ruled against granting the 38-year-old bail stating that he committed a serious crime against a public servant.
The matter has been adjourned to April 11.
