THE new renovation at the Gurdwala Sahib in Samabula, Suva, will feature architecture from Amritsar in Punjab, India.

Samabula Sikh Temple head priest Preetnam Singh Shokar said this would be the first-ever renovation to be carried out since its establishment in 1923.

“This architecture is very significant and it has taken a long process to bring it to Fiji. Amritsar is where the Golden Temple is located, this is the head body of all Sikh temples around the world,” Mr Shokar said.

“Over the past 96 years, there was no renovations done and its interesting that the building also feature an ancient Greek architecture.

“We have been told by the architectures the current wooden structure will survive another 100 years.”

He said they could not fully reform the whole building because it was a national heritage listed.

Mr Shokar also said the official inaugural ceremony on March 31 would be officiated by the USP Vice-Chancellor Prof Pal Ahluwalia.
