SPEAK up against racism and intolerance, says Ignite4Change president Broderick Mervyn.

He echoed the sentiments while speaking at the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination panel discussion last Thursday.

The event was organised by the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) in Lautoka.

Mr Mervyn said racism and intolerance took many forms, including denying individuals the basic principles of equality or fuelling hatred that led to ethnic genocide.

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,” he said.

Mr Mervyn also urged people to show empathy and solidarity with members of the community.

He noted that racial and ethnic discrimination occurred on a daily basis, hindering progress for millions of people around the world.
