THE piece of land at Thurston Gardens earmarked for the development of an Indian Government chancery is home to a 100 plus-year rain tree and caves that were used to store museum artefacts during World War II.
Director of the Fiji Museum, Nemani Sipiriano, says the cultural and historical significance of 6467 square metres of land at Thurston Garden needs to be appreciated.
He also highlighted the discovery of archaeological items during exploratory digs conducted in the 1990s and 2000 – adding there were historical books that indicate the site being of cultural significance linking it to the people of Suvavou and burial sites.
