THE Fiji Football Association is awaiting the decision of the Oceania Football on which nation will replace Solomon Islands at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru this year.

Solomon Islands and New Zealand qualified from Oceania but after reaching the finals of the OFC U16 Championship.

However, according to OFC, the Solomon Islands have been disqualified for fielding an overage player.

Solomon Islands defeated Fiji 3-1 in the semi-finals and OFC is yet to decide what the outcome of the disqualification will lead to.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said they were waiting for a decision.

“We will wait and see what OFC comes up with. There are a few possibilities and one of that is that if the semi-final is awarded to Fiji, Fiji would qualify to the World Cup. But that is yet to be decided and we will see what the outcome is,” Yusuf said.

The FIFA U17 World Cup will be held in Peru from October 5-27.

Fiji has only played in one FIFA World Cup and that was the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

In a historic victory, Fiji defeated Honduras 3-nil in the pool stages of the competition.
