WORK on the Sigatoka recreational park has been hampered by soil erosion and inclement weather, says Sigatoka Town Council CEO Tulsi Ram.

“It is taking some time because of the riverbank, when it rains, the soil gets wet and it makes it difficult for us to work,” he said.

“The river level goes up when it rains and that makes it difficult for us so we have to put a stop to the work. Work is progressing well but it will take some time and we hope to complete it in 2019.”

The park has been designed to attract more tourists into the riverside town with features such as a stage for local villagers to entertain guests.

Meanwhile, the council’s performance in 2018 was hailed a success by the CEO.

“We had a good 2018. Everything went well in terms of service delivery and we are looking forward to 2019.”
