WHILE people are enjoying the festive season, some athletes are sweating it out in the gym or on the tracks in hopes of making it to the final Team Fiji squad to the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Sprinter Helena Young is among those who spent part of Christmas Eve yesterday at the ANZ Stadium training.
She was with fellow sprinter Sisilia Seavula.
“Every day we are given a chance to grow and at this level I cannot afford to waste any time,” she said.
“Whether it is Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve or whatever the event, I would still come down to train.”
The 2018 Coca-Cola Games best athlete said training had been tough during the holidays and is expecting to be tougher in the next few months.
“Training has been tough and it moves to a higher level every day. Representing the country is different from representing the school, so it depends on how bad you want it,” said Young.
Young is vying for a spot for the coming Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
