SMALL Island Development States (SIDS) are currently threatened by submergence, coastal flooding and coastal erosion and these threats intensify year after year due to the increasingly significant impacts of climate change.

This was stressed by the Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni during the recent Parliamentary Meeting on the Occasion of the Adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in Rabat.

Dr Luveni said having traveled thousands of miles to Morocco, it was important to highlight the plight of SIDS given the linkage between climate change and migration.

She was also invited to a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Parliament, Habib El Maliki.

The meeting which was held from December 6 to 7, 2018 included the call for national governments to consider migration as a development and human right issue.
