MEMBERS of the Vuanirewa clan from Nayau in Lau traditionally handed over one of their own, the late Adi Ateca Moceiwaqa Mara Ganilau to the Ai Sokula clan in a solemn ceremony today to perform her final funeral rites.
The funeral cortege of the late chieftain arrived on Taveuni at mid-day today following her requiem mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva this morning.
Senior member of the Ai Sokula clan Ratu Jekesoni Yavala confirmed to this newspaper that the body of the late Adi Ateca will lie in state at Vuniduva in Somosomo, the traditional seat of her husband Ratu Epeli Ganilau who is the current Taukei Vuniduva.
Ratu Jekesoni said she would be laid to rest in Vuniduva following another requiem mass at the Wairiki Holy Cross Parish tomorrow.
He added that traditional funeral rites for the late Adi Ateca had begun in Suva last week following her passing.
Adi Ateca was married to former RFMF commander Ratu Epeli Ganilau.
Together they have four children.
