THE Fiji United Freedom Party (FUFP) has now changed its name to Freedom Alliance Party. The party has also elected its new president the Rev Timoci Volavola after their former leader Jagath Karunaratne was imprisoned for two years and five months last month.

Mr Volavola said they had changed the party’s name to avoid confusion during election day.

“The reason as to why we changed the party’s name is that confusion is avoided during election day. Some people might get confused about the name of the party,” he said.

Mr Volavola said the party’s new name had been registered by the Fijian Elections Office.

“We are prepared and we are focused towards the election and now we have more than 25 candidates (provisional) and we are trying to achieve the full 51 candidates come the election. “We will try and raise one issue which is we want to have a minister for religion. We want this ministry to partner with the government. Because many times there are problems in the church and there is no one in the government to take care of this,” he claimed.
