Headteacher jailed for indecently assaulting student

Update: 12:48PM A FORMER primary school headteacher of a Suva school who was convicted of indecently assaulting a 12-year-old student in 2016 was today sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.

Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage in his sentence also ordered the 52-year-old former civil servant to pay $1000 as compensation to the victim.

Magistrate Liyanage said the evidence revealed that the headteacher touched the hand and the breast of the victim who was a member of the student council at that time.

He said the sentence must signify that the court and the community denounced the commission of such offences.
