Kumar creates history

RAVINESH Kumar becomes the first Fijian to get a A licence football coaching certificate in the country.

Kumar, 41, had represented Nasinu in 2001 and later joined Ba where he scored a goal against Nadi in the 2003 Champion vs Champion series.

He was awarded his certificate by Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa, Suva on Tuesday.

“It is not only the players who need to be developed, but we need to develop referees and the coaches. Fiji FA had been investing in coaching program and we will continue to invest in future,” Patel said.

“We have developed our first A licence coach who is fully certified now as a coaching instructor for Oceania. The program does not stop with Ravinesh, but we have got other coaches who will be taking the course.

“He has made a lot of effort since technical development is not a 8am to 5pm job, but it takes long hours and he has been working from home as well.”

Kumar was happy to receive his A licence coaching certificate.

“I thank Fiji FA for giving me an opportunity to take part in the high profile course and allowing me to spend time with the districts to practise football,” he said.

“My main goal is to coach the coaches and mentor six or seven coaches who have been going through the courses.

“I will not leave the country and I will stay and give back to the country. I will continue to share my knowledge with the other coaches and the districts to develop football.”
