MIDFIELDER Christopher Wasasala and striker Saula Waqa combined well to score goals to help Fiji in its 8-0 win over Tuvalu in the Pacific Mini Games at Port Vila Stadium in Vanuatu yesterday.

Wasasala scored four goals. The first in the second minute before getting the rest in the 16th, 65th and 70th.

Ba striker Saula Waqa scored a hat-trick. The first in the 24th before he struck twice in the later spell for his tally.

His second goal came after he combined well with the midfielders to score in 48th minute and his final contribution came in the 56th minute.

Nadi striker Rusiate Matarerega also managed a goal in the 41st minute of the drubbing.

Fiji Football Association vice-president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy said it was a good start.

“We will progress as the competition progresses,” he said.

“Christophe Gamel’s vision is to have a mixture of young and veteran players.”

Fiji plays Solomon Islands on Wednesday at 6pm (Fiji time).
