NEWTOWN Rugby Club will be out to make history as they look to defend their Ram Sami & Sons Nasinu Rugby Football Union (NSFRU) challenge shield for the seventh and final time for the 2017 season against Tacirua this weekend.
Former Newtown Rugby fullback and Rio 7s gold medallist Jerry Tuwai is confident that they would come away with a win this Saturday.
“I just want to wish them all the best this weekend, they are fit, mentally, physically and spiritually and I am confident that they will create history this Saturday and take the trophy home back to Newtown where it belongs,” Tuwai said.
He said they were on the verge of setting a new historical platform and establishing their dominance in the 2017 Ram Sami & Sons NSFRU club rugby competition.
He said it’s the spirit of brotherhood and family amongst the players that’s the true strength of their team.
“I grew up and started playing rugby in Newtown and for me Newtown is all about the brotherhood and I know for a fact that bond would take them through this weekend.
“This is the last challenge and if we win this then it will be a historical moment for Newtown.”
Newtown won the regular season trophy and have managed to successfully defend the Ram Sami & Sons NSFRU Shield on six occasions.
Now with six successful defences in the bag they will be looking to end their season on a higher note and keep the shield with them for another year as they will be looking to face off with this year’s final challenger Tacirua.
