TABLE tennis player Vicky Wu was in top form in the Fiji Games competition which started at Templetec Table Tennis Club venue at Laucala Beach Estate on Thursday.

Fiji Table Tennis Association president Anthony Ho said Wu had been working hard.

“He won the last trial and that really boosted his position and ranking until the latest results which would be released today. He is a young person and developing rapidly in the last two months,” Ho said.

“He has improved with all the training he has been getting and I am confident he will be on top in the national men’s team leading up to the Mini Games.”

Ho said the players who competed in the competition had shown good performance.

“In the men’s event, top national players Philip Wing, 22, of Kadavu and Vicky Wu of Suva ruled the men’s event with eight wins out of nine games with Philip Wing winning on a countback by edging Vicky 7-11,5-11,12-10,11-8, 13-11 in a five-set thriller,” he said.

“In the women’s division, current national women’s champion, Grace Yee, aged 15 of Rabi, again reigned supreme with a flawless display winning all her nine matches followed by Carolyn Li of Suva, a former three-time national champion, who upset the odds after defeating number two ranked Sally Yee. In third place is Harvi Yee, a former national champion of Rabi and mother of the two.”

The competition will end today.
