St John’s College of Cawaci on Ovalu will meet defending Deans trophy champion Queen Victoria School in the semi-final of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union’s Coke Zero Deans trophy.

The question remains will St John’s create history and stamp its mark in the top flight of secondary schools rugby or will they give QVS another chance to defend its title.

In another U18 semi-final clash west’s lone ranger Cuvu will face Eastern Zone champion Ratu Kadavulevu School.

The two teams to watch in next week’s Coke Zero Deans trophy under-18 semi-finals are St John’s College and Cuvu.

Both teams have qualified after their tremendous performances showcasing pure rugby talent.

The Ovalau-based team defeated Nasinu Secondary School 20-9 while Cuvu College defeated Suva Grammar School 23-9 in their respective matches.

Secondary schools rugby union vice-president Biu Colati said it was amazing to see how these schools played.

He said this showed that any team could walk away with the prestigious silverware.

“St John’s was placed third in the Eastern Zone competition while Cuvu topped the Western Zone and their performance has proven that they are prepared to take on any team,” Colati said.

“One highlight of the competition is that all the Southern Zone under-18 teams failed to make the semis. With Cuvu being the lone team from the west and the rest are all from the Eastern Zone show the intensity of the game has really improved.

Marist Brothers High school went down to RKS 10-7 while QVS crushed Ratu Navula College 28-3.

Meanwhile union’s secretary Waisake Tuicakau said they would confirm the semis fixtures today.

Some of our prediction for the semi-finals this week are as follows:

Under-14: Marist Brothers High School vs Queen Victoria School, RKS vs Suva Grammar School, U15: LMS vs QVS, RKS vs Ratu Navula, U18: Cuvu College vs RKS, QVS vs St John’s, U19: Ba Pro vs LMS, Ratu Navua vs RKS.
