He grew up wanting to be a professional basketball player but after a “reality check” he saw that it will just be a dream so he decided to change careers.
Born in Lautoka and raised in Rome, Italy, Nemani Kavuru Sione Ganilau Fifita Borando today works as an assistant team leader Italian reservations consultant for Pacific Destinations (inbound operator) in Nadi.
It’s a job that requires a lot of patience especially when dealing with customers from all across the globe.
Despite the pressure or the stress from work, the 30-year-old father of two, who goes by the stage name Nemoney, has always had time to do what he loves best and that is songwriting, creating music and singing.
“The name came about because my friends back in Italy called me “Money” for short since Nemani was too long.
“I actually grew up first listening to rock, heavy metal then later started loving hip hop and rap music. C.R.E.A.M from the Wu-Tang Clan was one of the first hip-hop tracks I heard that made me love hip hop. Also I love all other music genres from reggae to country music and what trended back in the day.”
Since his first gig on December 31, 2009 at the Traps Back Bar, Nemoney has produced and recorded three original tracks this is in addition to recording other mix tapes and featuring in many other tracks by other local homegrown artistes.
“Two days before the first gig I just kept on practising my lines and kept a positive mind feeling excited and nervous at the same time. I was trying to make sure I didn’t forget my lyrics on stage.”
Writing songs and making them rhyme is not any easy job, so how does the 30-year-old, with strong paternal and maternal links to Somosomo on Taveuni, do it.
“I always target every year to make more and better music than the year before.
“I try to first focus on a topic that would capture listeners’ attention and then from there I try to write rhymes as complex but at the same time catchy for the listeners.
“It’s actually a range from club songs to full on rap. This would depend on the mood of the track which I am writing too. But mostly the songs I rap about is about experiences I’ve been through.”
Like how the wise old owl stated, behind every successful man is a strong and supportive woman, for Nemoney it is his wife and two daughters.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my number one fan and also my beautiful wife Monica King Borando who held me down through my ups and downs throughout all these years and blessed me with two beautiful daughters; Victoria and Sibella J. Thank you Mami.
Nemoney and Faga Timote aka Mynlessme have just recorded a new album titled “Presidential Flow” which can be downloaded on: http://www.datpiff.com/Nemoney-Presidential-Flow-mixtape.819054.html
