JAVED Ahmed has been appointed as the acting president of the Nadi Football Association.
Ahmed, who was the senior vice-president of the association, takes over the leading role on an interim basis after the sudden resignation of president Navneeda Gounder.
The association held its ordinary congress on Monday where Ahmed was appointed. Mun Sami Chetty was elected as the new vice-president.
Ahmed said a board of control meeting would be held next week where the plans for the season would be discussed.
He said a structure would be outlined to attract sponsors and also generate income for the team from other avenues.
“The executives received full support from the members during the congress,” Ahmed said.
“The congress was smooth sailing.
“There were no objections to the financial report and the meeting ended in half in hour which shows confidence in the current executives.”
Nadi will play two matches in the Northern Division during the Vodafone Premier League this weekend.
The Jetsetters will face Dreketi at 1.30pm at Subrail Park in Labasa on Saturday and then take on the hosts at 3pm on Sunday.
Ahmed said the side resumed training yesterday after inclement weather disrupted the sessions whole of last week.
“Fitness is the key area that the players will have to work on in the next few days,” he said.
“Playing two matches in as many days coupled up with all the travelling will be strenuous affair.”
Meanwhile Gounder who attended the congress said the association was in good hands.
The former Nadi and national rep was the association’s president from 1996 to 2002 and was re-elected in 2013.
