Once in a lifetime opportunity for youths

ELEVEN Fijian youths were farewelled yesterday as they prepared to leave for Japan to participate in the “Ship for World Youth Leaders” program.

Ministry of Youth and Sports permanent secretary Alison Burchell wished the youths the best and a safe trip.

“Represent the best of Fiji and with all the other countries try not to show off but show off the Fijian warmth, hospitality, diversity and hymn through singing,” she said.

Ms Burchell told the youths to return with a report of their experience and leadership qualities.

Japanese ambassador to Fiji, Takuji Hanatani also extended his well-wishes to the Fijian delegation to the SWYL program and reminded them to participate in all the sessions actively, make new friends, learn about other cultures and jointly participate in on-board programs.

“The key objective of the program is to cultivate the spirit of international co-operation, building friendships and better understanding between the youths of Japan and participating countries,” he said.

Mr Hanatani said the program should help build a valuable asset for the future and become a bridge between Fiji and Japan.

The ship will have 240 youths from selected countries around the world.
