THE Pacific Feminist Forum launched the 2016 Pacific Feminist Charter at the University of the South Pacific last week.
A first for the region in terms of women’s activism in the region, the charter will look to promote women’s human rights as well as protection for them.
Fiji Women’s Rights Movement’s acting executive director Michelle Reddy said developing the charter was an enriching experience.
“It’s been a historic moment where we were able to talk about issues we face in the Pacific,” she said.
Miki Wali of the Haus of Khameleon said the document captured Pacific feminists’ perspectives and priorities.
Diverse Voices and Action for Equality’s (DIVA) Noelene Nabulivou said the charter documented the voices of Pacific feminists to map out effective processes to further gender equality and women’s human rights in the Pacific.
The outcomes document, titled Pacific Feminists Charter for Change, identified issues raised during discussions.
