Fiji, the way the world should be

The achievement of the Fiji sevens team under the guidance of “Tu Rai” has really galvanised this country like never before.

There is a swelling of national pride. People are happier and a renewed sense of hope permeates the air.

At no other time in our short history have we come this close to shaking off the stains of our past and truly become Fiji — the way the world should be.

This is within our grasp. As we witness the public support of our golden heroes, there is a realisation that people identify with them because we want to be a part of something great.

I believe we can.

So to take a page from “Tu Rai’s” playbook, while we look to the future, let us focus on the little things so that the big things can fall into place.

Let us make the effort not to litter. Look after our environment better and stop eating kawakawa.

Let us ensure our homes and communities are safe for our women and children.

Let us engage in education and play our part in ensuring our kids stay in school and achieve the best that they can be. (Our Government has done its part!)

Let us eat healthy and exercise to reduce NCDs.

Let us teach our kids to be safe.

Let us be safer on the roads or at sea.

Let us in humility and patience, be kinder to one another.

Above all, let us strive to smile more.

The Olympic Games gold medal has brought world attention to Fiji.

Now the onus is on all Fijians to show the world that Fiji is the way the world should be.
