THE National Employment Policy (NEP) will be launched at the end of the month.

This after its implementation was endorsed last week by the Government.

Fiji’s Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate in a Government statement issued today said the purpose of the NEP was to identify and implement ways to improve the growth and quality of employment in Fiji.

“A National Employment Policy takes into account a whole range of social and economic issues. It brings together various measures, programs and institutions that influence the demand and supply of labour and the functioning of labour markets,” Mr Usamate said.

The NEP will assist Government, training providers, employers, workers, investors, donor agencies, NGOs and students to plan for their employment and investment options.

Mr Usamate said a detailed implementation plan would be developed to identify the key stakeholders with key strategies, performance indicators and timelines and budget.

The NEP is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 8, which is “inclusive and sustainable economic growth”, our National Development Plan on Transforming Fiji and decreasing unemployment to less than 4 per cent as well as the ministry’s five-year Strategic Development Plan.
