WIDELY regarded as one of the most secluded and lush tourist destinations in Fiji, Kadavu has the potential to attract more guests in the coming months.
With assistance from Australian Aid and Market Development Facility, about seven resorts in the area have formed a joint organisation aimed at marketing Kadavu to the world.
Tourism Kadavu, as it is aptly known, has 12 members and exhibited its products at the Fijian Tourism Expo on Denarau this week.
Organisation representative Silina Pawalu said this was the first time for the resorts to come together.
“Most of the agents come from overseas and the first question we ask them is ‘Do you know where Kadavu is?’ and most of the time they won’t know,” she said.
“It’s a big boost coming to FTE and we hope this will bring a lot of people to Kadavu because it is not so tourist populated when compared with other areas in Fiji.”
Mrs Pawalu, who is also the co-manager of Matana Beach Resort, said Fiji Link operated four weekly flights to Kadavu.
“At times, this makes it difficult to confirm bookings because of the limited flights so we’re hoping that more guests come and this will actually boost bookings with Fiji Link as well.”
One of the popular activities offered by Kadavu resorts includes diving.
