TOURISM Fiji put on a successful show during the four-day International Tourismus-Borse (ITB) Berlin travel show in Germany last month.
One of the world’s leading trade shows, the travel exhibition was held at the Messe Berlin Exhibition Centre from March 9 to March 13.
Marking its 50th anniversary, the event attracted 10,000 exhibitors and 115,000 trade visitors from 86 countries.
Tourism Fiji UK and Europe market regional director Jane West said this year’s ITB Berlin travel show was one of the best for Fiji.
“There has been increased interest in Destination Fiji from trade partners, trade media and bloggers at the event. It has been a very fast-paced show and we have had a lot of people come to our stand,” she said in a press release.
“We were also encouraged to hear from our existing partners that almost no cancellations have been made due to Cyclone Winston.”
She said Fiji also walked away with an award during the show.
“We won an award for our stand at the show and it was not just because of the design and appearance, but also quality of staff and how visitors were greeted and dealt with.”
A networking cocktail function was also hosted by Tourism Fiji during the event where funds were raised for Severe TC Winston victims.
“We had 60 people attend our cocktail function, which we used to raise funds for the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Relief Fund,” said Ms West.
“One of the attendees at the Fijian Tourism Expo 2015, Jurgen Pfundel from Panther Reisen, managed to raise 10,000 euros ($F23,666) from his church group for the fund and set up a youth exchange program.”
