A TWENTY-MEMBER senior national men’s team has been named by the Fiji Football Association to prepare for the 2016 Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup.
In a statement, national team director and Fiji FA vice president Tarunesh Reddy said the team would march into camp tomorrow for training with the U23 team.
He said the senior team’s first camp was expected to run from February 15-27.
“We’ve named the teams and they start training next week. The OFC Nations Cup comes around every four years and so every team will be preparing well for this tournament,” he said.
The tournament also serves as the second round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament for the Oceania region where the top six teams from the tournament will advance to the third round of the regional World Cup qualifiers.
Reddy said selection “will still be open as we go through the new season and we might get in some more players if it needs”.
He added they had planned three camps in the lead-up to the tournament with the first on February 15-27, the second from April 4-16 and the third to commence on April 25.
Fiji is pooled with New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
