THE estimated sale of goods and services income for a survey on wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles during the third quarter of last year totalled $917.7million.
This, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, was an increase of 1.5 per cent over the previous quarter and 5.8 per cent for the corresponding quarter in 2014. The bureau said the survey covered registered businesses engaged in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles.
It said information was gathered on industry sales and stocks from a representative sample of establishments operating in the sector, which provided them with a short-term indicator of the sector’s performance.
“The estimated value of stocks at the end of the September quarter of 2015 was $420m, an increase of 1.6 per cent over the second quarter of 2015 and 5.4 per cent more than the same quarter in 2014,” the bureau said.
It noted the limitations of the findings such as in a situation where a business was involved in multiple activities.
For example, for wholesale and retail trade, it was the predominant activity that determined one’s classification.
