WITH yesterday being his final day as the man at the helm of Rugby House, outgoing CEO Radrodro Tabualevu said he had no regrets looking back on his tenure with the organisation.
Due to return to his private business after taking time out in his village at Somosomo Taveuni he said one of the highlights of his career with FRU was the Flying Fijians’ performance at the world cup.
“I enjoyed my time here. Someone asked me what the highlight of my time here was and I said it was the tighthead win against England that led to our score. That to me signalled that we have arrived at the highest level of world rugby and that we have what it takes to compete at that level.
“In last year’s annual report I was talking about our scrums and the need for us to put something together to push that in the right direction. The scrum that presented itself in the game against England was for me an indication that we are starting to move in the right direction,” he said.
He added that he was grateful to have worked with continuing staff that had to face the wrath of a nation when things become tumultuous at Rugby House.
“Management wise it’s certainly been a learning experience. I now have a renewed respect for the people who work inside the Fiji Rugby Union who are all too often unsung heroes usually at the brunt of all negative comments but the work that these young men and women do inside Rugby House is invaluable to Fiji Rugby and I dare say that its only when things are stable inside Rugby House we see good results on the field,” he said.
While he would have loved to see Fiji win against one of the tier one nations, he said Fiji Rugby was in capable hands with Dr. Berlin Kafoa to oversee operations before the post is officially advertised.
