TARGET Corp (TGT.N) said it will drop shipping fees for all online orders during the holiday shopping season for a second year in a row, ratcheting up competition with rivals including Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) and Amazon.com (AMZN.O).
The discount retailer also said it has struck a deal with Borderfree Inc to ship products to 200 countries and territories outside the US during the holiday season.
“Traffic is very important for us during the holidays and … free shipping was very well received last year,” CEO Brian Cornell said on Thursday.
Target will offer free shipping for orders placed online from November 1 to December 25, according to Cornell, a former senior executive at PepsiCo and CEO of Sam’s Club, a wholesale club owned by Wal-Mart. Target currently requires a minimum online order size of $US25 ($F52) to qualify for free shipping.
