The three series Apco Fiji National Rugby League 9s national finals has been hailed a success.

FNRL acting chief executive officer Don Natabe says the three tournaments luved upto expectations.

“We had a wonderful three weeks of 9s competition and I am happy to say we had some great match ups,” Natabe said.

“Congratulations to Saru Dragons for winning the last two events in the men’s. Last year, Nadera Panthers dominated the 9s tournaments but it is great to see Saru coming up this year.”

Natabe said only the best players will be selected to represent the national team at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

“The extended squad had been named and it will be trimmed to the final squad in early September. I wish all the players the very best and also thank each and every club for their performances in the three tournaments.”

Natabe also acknowledged the participation of more women in the sport and said he is hopeful we will be able to defend both our gods medals in the men’s and women’s categories at the Pacific Games.

The Pacific Games will be held in November in the Solomon Islands.
