90,460 visitor arrivals in June

Visitor arrivals for June 2023 totalled 90,460 which was a record for the month of June and represents an increase of 45.6 per cent compared with a year earlier.

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics said this is an increase of 20.4 per cent compared with May 2023, which recorded a total 75,147 visitors.

Of the 90,460 visitors, 89,506 came by air while 954 came by sea.

The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (622) and 332 arrivals by yacht.

For June 2023 visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 79.0 per cent of total arrivals, 9.7 per cent came to visit their friends or relatives, 2.0 per cent came for business purposes, while 9.3 per cent visited Fiji for other reasons.

The majority of visitors were in the age range of 25-64 years (61.6 per cent), which accounts for the vast majority of the working age population.

Tourism Fiji has said in June 2023, 36 hotel properties in Fiji operated at an 87 per cent occupancy rate, indicating a positive trend in the sector.

“The average daily rate (ADR) for the month was $559, a significant 63 per cent increase compared to 2019 and a rise of 37 per cent, compared to the previous year’s ADR of $408,” said Tourism Fiji.

“The thriving industry in Fiji is generating improved revenue, as evident from the average Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) recorded for the month at $485.

“This represents a growth of 77 per cent compared to 2019 levels. “These positive trends underscore the market’s potential and attract both domestic and international travelers.”
